"Inspired by a rash of hate crimes on the UMass Amherst campus between 2018 and 2019, this app takes the “Report a Climate Incident” feature on the DEI website and turns it into an interactive app. Whether on campus or off, anyone who wishes to use it can anonymously report a crime that pertains to the higher ups at the university. UMass Crimes will then give the person filing the report options as to which resources they want to access (CCPH, UHS, CWC, Men and Masculinities Center, Stonewall, Veterans Affairs, CMASS, the Cultural Centers, Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, WOCLN, Veteran Student Resource Center, UMPD) and any additional resources for off-campus people. Minorities on campus should feel safe and secure on and off-campus, since they pay a whole lot of money, time, and energy to make it on a campus built to gatekeep them and prevent them from succeeding. In order for them to overcome the immense challenges they face, they need to feel supported, cared for, appreciated, understood, and recognized at the same level as their white peers. This app hopes to help with that." UMass Crimes
